In The Works ...

This is what I'm working on today.   Orange, red and yellow have become one of my favorite color combinations. (In Pantone speak this would be Fiesta and Buttercup.)

I'm putting lots of love into this necklace.  A few of my handmade paper and clay jewels, a little bit of wood and glass on strands of hemp.  Little bits and pieces I've stashed over the past year.

Check back in a few days to see the finished piece.

My Art On Display At Lee School Academy For The Arts

The Tennessee River Fine Arts League, of which I am a member, provides the art work that lines the halls of the historic Lee School Academy For The Arts in Paris, Tennessee.  Occasionally, the school will have a different display, but for the most part the art is created by members of TRFAL.  The exhibit changes quarterly.  The current display will be up until mid March.  Hope you will stop by and enjoy the art!

My Art On Display At Merison's

In addition to carrying fine furniture, appliances and home decor, Merison's Furniture, located at 202 Memorial Drive in Paris, Tennessee, also carries paintings, prints, fiber arts, and pottery by a select few local artists.  I am very happy and proud to be among those select few.

Although Paris/Henry County has a thriving arts and crafts community, there are very few places for artists to display their wares - which makes Merison's all the more special.  This is something they do just to help the local art community.  So the next time you're looking for unique original art or crafts that are locally made give Merison's a try.

I usually rotate my art there every three months.  This is what I have on display now.

Thank you Merison's!

Windows On The Square - Limited Time Offer

For a limited time I am offering a great discount on many of the images from my Windows On The Square series.   I will be retiring some of these images in the near future, so this is a good way to save money on your favorite prints before they go away.

Windows On The Square  is a series of photographs of downtown Paris, Tennessee which I started in the Summer of 2007.   I was inspired by all the beautiful, historic two story buildings with fancy brick work and windows that look down on court house square.  Thus the title Windows On The Square. The series has a unique ethereal “look” which was applied to each photograph, creating a cohesive series of images.   Since making these photographs,  several business have changed hands, changed names and building fronts.

There are two ways you can take advantage of these discounts.
  • You can order fine art prints for as little as $17 from my online gallery here. You can also order note cards, canvas prints and even tote bags or pillows.
  • Or, you can purchase a digital download for $5 from my Etsy Shop located here and do your own prints, note cards, etc.  You can print as many as you like for the one time fee of $5.  You just can't sell the prints, cards, etc.  That would be violating my copyright.
Happy Shopping!

Paper Jewelry In My Etsy Shop

I re-opened my Etsy shop this summer and have slowly but surely been adding inventory to it.

For those of you who have been buying my jewelry at T.F. Rice & Co - never fear, they will continue to carry my jewelry.  As a matter of fact, if you see something in my online shop that you would prefer to buy at T.F. Rice & Co., or vice versa, just let me know.

This week I have been uploading paper jewelry.  (This is really time consuming.) Over the next few days, I'll be uploading clay jewelry.   I have lots of ideas for new pieces - just have to find the time to make them.

About my paper jewelry ….

As an artist I have always worked with high quality paper - artists and watercolor papers, papers used for fine art prints and papers used for displays.  And I would always have pieces left over.  I hesitate to call these left over pieces “scraps” because  they are really quite beautiful forms of paper - archival, acid free, cotton rag and other fibers, some handmade papers - beautiful even in their natural, unpainted or uncolored state.

In the interest of being ecologically friendly I started  experimenting with paper.  Paper has been used in  jewelry for over 2000 years.  So it’s not a new idea, just a new look.

Paper is extremely versatile.  There’s no end to it’s shapes and colors and it’s very lightweight.  If you are afraid to wear big bold earrings because of the weight - think paper.  It’s light as a feather.  And all my paper pieces are sealed to make them water resistant (not water proof).  With a little care paper jewelry will last for many, many years.

I hand paint and draw my own designs onto these various forms of paper.  Then I combine this artwork with diverse materials including metal, wood,  glass and crystal beads.  When I have recyclable materials such as old or broken jewelry or buttons I like to include them whenever possible. I create each piece of jewelry myself with an eye for color, shape and texture.

By carefully mixing colors, shapes and textures, I try to create distinctive and unique jewelry.     Although some pieces may look similar, no two pieces are exactly alike.  My jewelry is not mass produced.  Each piece is a unique, one-of-a-kind piece of art.  However ... if you see a piece of my jewelry that you really like and it has already sold, please email me.  I might be able to make you something that is similar - maybe the same colors or some of the same features.

And as always, I happy to read your comments or suggestions.
